The Spaniard had a keyrole in the brilliant result for Woking-based team, as his talent emerged since from the start. After a solid ninth place on saturday qualifying, Sainz immediately started a fight with the two Toro Rosso with a stunning overtake in turn 3. The outside move in turn 1 was decisive for the whole race strategy, as a smart call from the pit did the rest of the job.
Carlos felt very happy with the teamwork this weekend in Monaco. "Another fast pit-stop by our mechanics, a great lap to defend from the Kvyat stop and then it was just about managing the tyres and bringing it home. Important points on another track that really didn’t suit us much. We need to keep pushing to improve, but congrats to all the team for today", Sainz said.
YES! P6 in Monaco! Had a blast overtaking two cars around Turn 3 in the first lap! Great call from the team, fast pit stop (again!) and important points for the Championship!! #carlo55ainz #MonacoGP pic.twitter.com/kpWnLkGVuI— Carlos Sainz (@Carlossainz55) May 26, 2019
With 30 points in the standings, McLaren looks now a serious candidate for the fourth place, as other teams weren't able to maximize the effort on the first races of the season. This shouldn't be an overall achievement but a great place to restart for Zak Brown, as he will have to do an hard work to make everyone forget the awful car that they gave to Fernando Alonso at Indianapolis. The McLaren Chevrolet journey was hard right from the start, as the partnership with Carlin didn't take the results they expected. The hope is that such a big failure must be the place of no return for the team, to slowly come back to the place its heritage deserve.
