Alfa Romeo’s veteran driver Kimi Raikonnen lies eighth in the drivers’ standings with 31 points as he’s the reason why the Swiss outfit lies 7th in the constructor's standings with 32. Thanks to the single point also from the Italian rookie driver, Antonio Giovinazzi who’s observing closely the experience and knowledge demonstrated by the Ice Man.

The Finn started with a very decent achievement at Alfa Romeo picking the most points for the team during the first half of the season as he scored in eight of the opening twelve races with highest race finish of P7, his team boss is very happy with what he has accomplished for the team so far. At this time last year, they had 18 points, only seven points behind Renault. This shows how valuable Kimi’s performances have been.

With the competition in the midfield quite tough this year, and scoring such points in the middle of the fight between McLaren, Renault and Haas is phenomenal and shows how Alpha Romero is a strong team that can make progress throughout the season. Alfa would score 9 times out of 12 but the penalties for the illegal starts in Germany has cost them.

The car gives the Finn confidence and a good understanding of pace. He is quick but made some mistakes. It’s all about the car’s ongoing development and picking the perfect package during the season, thanks to the arrival of Alfa Romeo, a smart way to build the team up with a great budget. Much better resources than the Sauber team had before now.

“The advantage with Kimi is before he signed last year we had hours of discussions, about the team, the positive and negative points, where we could improve, where we have to improve,” Vasseur told Autosport.com.

“He’s fully committed on the project. I don’t know how he was last year with Ferrari, I was not there, but for us it is working perfectly.” Vasseur added.

It’s been asked many times about Kimi’s commitment to F1 in the past, but the 39-year-old has not let his standards drop since returning to the team where he made his Formula 1 debut back in 2001.

“We are doing the right things, but as a team, we have some limitations because the budget is not like the guys have at the front. We know that we have to accept it, but I think for what we have, we are doing a pretty good job. Obviously, we want to be faster and be further ahead but we’re building up. These things take time. The new things we bring always work as they should. – Kimi Raikkonen said

“I think we’re doing OK. It could always have been better in some cases when we certainly didn’t maximize the points, but that’s how it is.” he added.

As Giovinazzi gains valuable experience his contribution should also increase and along with the steady and reliable Raikkonen, Alfa Romeo is looking forward to even better results in the second half of the 2019 season.
