After a tough first day of the Japanese Grand Prix for Renault, the Australian driver, Daniel Ricciardo is confident that the French team will improve their pace and will qualify in high positions and they will achieve their pass to Q3. Daniel achieved to finish P14 in FP1 with a time lap of 1:31.563 with 25 laps under his belt. During the evening session, Daniel finished on P17 with a best time lap of 1:29.859 and 30 laps completed. It is not usual to see the Renault drivers on the bottom of the grid but there was a reason. They were struggling to maximise the car performance due to their new front wing, so they were trying to figure out what was the perfect set-up for their car.
“We focused on getting in as much running as possible today knowing tomorrow is off. We improved the car in the afternoon after a difficult morning and found some decent progress. We decided to complete some long runs and then short runs towards the end of the afternoon.” Commented the Australian driver.
“Unfortunately, both low fuel laps were compromised with traffic – we are better than what the timesheets say – and I don’t think we’re too far off from where we want to be. Hopefully we can have a good qualifying and then be in a better position to race on Sunday.” Added the Renault driver.
We’ll see in what position the Renault drivers will start on the Sunday race. We want to see a fight for being the best of the rest with McLaren but, as things are going, it seems that McLaren will stay in that position.
