The 2020 Formula 1 season is about to start. After a terrible Australian Grand Prix, which was cancelled, the teams, drivers, fans, etc. were eager for it to start. Recall that the season was to start on March 15 on the Australian track, however, things were complicated due to the pandemic caused by the virus of Chinese origin called covid-19 and this caused that the Australian, Monaco, French, Baku, Japanese and Singapore Grand Prix were definitively cancelled, while many others were postponed. However, the FIA and F1 began to make the new calendar for the season and things began to settle, so it was announced that the season would start the weekend of July 3-5 in the Red Bull Ring for the Austrian Grand Prix. With the initial 8 race schedule confirmed, teams and drivers prepare to get off to an excellent start and to score an exceptionally good amount of points. On this occasion, we will talk about how the McLaren team is preparing and what they expect at the start of the 2020 Formula 1 season.
In a video posted by the British team on its official app, Andreas Seidl, who is McLaren's team principal, commented on the preparation and mindset the British squad is having. According to Seidl, McLaren is excited to start the season and be able to measure themselves compared to his rivals. "The longer the break and the longer we were away from the races, at least for me, and I know that also with many team members, the desire to return to competition grew bigger and bigger every day." German stated.
The McLaren team principal was also optimistic with the results they obtained during the pre-season winter tests carried out at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. He also commented that it is believed that their closest rivals will be Racing Point and Renault, so they should be careful with these teams. “We know from winter testing that we definitely took a good step forward during winter. We had some good tests. At the same time, the competition around us also did a great job, so it's important to get back to this winter momentum as quickly as possible.” McLaren's crew chief commented.
We could also see Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris, who are the drivers of the British team, that are already preparing for the start of the season, since Lando was at Silverstone racing in a Formula 3 and both drivers were racing in karts to return to get used to the feeling of being in a race car, although it does not compare with the feeling of his Formula 1 McLaren. “We return to this state of mind of competition, this fighting spirit, and I hope that with luck we have a good start." Andreas Seidl expressed.
McLaren had a very good 2019 season as they managed to finish in 4th position and as the best of the rest in the constructors 'championship and Carlos Sainz managed to beat a Red Bull, positioning himself in 6th place in the drivers' championship after having achieved a fantastic podium at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Where do you think McLaren will end this season?
