There was drama before the start as Max Verstappen crashed at T12 on his way to the grid and damaged his left front suspension. Amazingly, the Red Bull mechanics fixed it before the race began.

When the five red lights went out in wet conditions, Hamilton made a perfect start to lead Stroll, Verstappen, Vettel, Leclerc and Valtteri Bottas. Nicholas Latifi made a stunning start to jump from P15 to P10.

Haas’ decision to pit for dries at the end of the formation lap paid off a treat as everyone else came between laps 2 and 5. Hamilton retained the lead with Verstappen into 2nd, followed by Magnussen and Grosjean. Stroll, Leclerc, Bottas, Vettel, Albon and Perez was the top 10 after everyone switched to dries.

Latifi picked up a puncture following an unsafe release by the Williams into the path of Carlos Sainz.

Magnussen and Grosjean started to drop back as Stroll and Bottas overtook them. The Finn had earlier passed Leclerc for P6.

Leclerc started to struggle on his softs vs the drivers around him on mediums and was rounded up by Albon and Vettel before he boxed at the end of lap 20 and rejoined in P15.

Hamilton led Verstappen, Stroll, Bottas, Magnussen, Grosjean, Albon, Vettel, Perez and Ricciardo on lap 25.

Bottas pitted at the end of lap 33 and undercut Lance Stroll to take P3. Ricciardo and Sainz extended their middle stints before pitting for mediums. The order after the second stops was Hamilton, Verstappen, Bottas, Stroll, Vettel, Albon, Perez, Magnussen, Ricciardo and Leclerc.

Ricciardo quickly cleared Magnussen following his stop to move up to P8. However, he couldn’t make any further progress from there.

With Bottas stuck behind Verstappen and having a big enough gap behind to maintain P3, Mercedes boxed the Finn on lap 50 to give him fresh tyres to try and hunt down the Dutchman.

Leclerc’s torrid afternoon continued as Sainz passed him for P10 on lap 60. The other Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel lost out to Alex Albon in the battle for 5th with 4 laps to go.

Hamilton set the fastest lap with 3 laps to go as he eased to a comfortable win. Verstappen held off Bottas to take P2.

Lance Stroll drove a superb race to take 4th and take the best of the rest prize. Albon, Vettel, Perez, Ricciardo, Magnussen and Sainz rounded out the points scorers.
