Lewis Hamilton dedicates his 93rd F1 pole position to Chadwick Boseman
Today morning everyone woke up to the sad news that Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman had passed away, Hamilton was equally devastated by the sad news as he paid homage to the late Hollywood star by dedicating his pole position at Spa-Francorchamps.
Belgian GP pole is 93rd of Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton but it wasn’t any less emotional for the reigning champion as he was fighting through the emotions from the death of Hollywood star Chadwick Boseman.
Like always Mercedes’ driver was able to overcome the setback and emotions and was able to converge all that energy on track to clinch his 6th pole position at Spa-Francorchamps and in post-qualifying media debrief he expressed his feelings and emotions by dedicating his Pole Position to Chadwick and said:
“I feel incredibly blessed to be able to take pole on a day like this. I woke up this morning to the terrible news about Chadwick Boseman. What a humble man he was, portraying these iconic black figures. As a kid I wanted to be Superman, and it's so important today for young black people to have a superhero to look up to, who looks just like them. It's really not easy to perform at your best when you have something weighing on your heart, and to be truthful it was so difficult to shake off that negativity and channel it into something exceptional, but Chadwick showed that was possible"

Talking about the lap itself Lewis thinks after all these years, this year he was able to master the lap around Spa and was able to defeat the problems he had coming out of turn 1 over the past few years.
"Turn 1’s probably been a weakness for me for the last few years and I just got stronger and stronger through there. I saw that I was up out of Turn 1 and then I just kept eking away throughout the lap, so that was a very, very good lap, so I’m happy with that,” said the six times world champion.
After putting the time 1:41.451 for provisional pole on his first run of Q3, Briton driver was surprised that he was able to beat that and go even faster on his second flying lap of Q3.
I've done a lot of laps in my F1 career, but those two laps in Q3 were almost perfect. You can't see my face under my helmet out there, but I was smiling, this track is just incredible and I was totally on the limit.” added Hamilton of his final effort in Q3.
“That session was getting better and better… I didn’t make any mistakes on all of the laps, but the Q3 Run 1 lap was ace and I was thinking there’s probably no way I’m going to beat that.”
Probably the most majestic thing about Lewis’s lap today was on a track like Spa where everyone is always looking for slipstreams and as we saw train of cars at the end Q2, everyone trying to position there car behind other for taking benefit of slipstream, Lewis Hamilton did his lap in clean air and still went half a second faster than his teammate and Red Bull driver Max Verstappen. He says it was decision based on his studies of the track.
“I studied that and of course there’s been times where we’ve had to try and get a tow,” he said. “You’ve got these three difficult sections where you’ve got obviously the straight line first section which is pretty straightforward but getting the right wing level here is not so easy and some teams, as you can see, are really quick in the first and last sector but not so good in the middle sector.”
“We decided to go out early and run in the clean air as it's so easy to make a mess of the tow if you get blocked or there's a yellow flag and we definitely made the right call.”
“We've got a big race still to come tomorrow and the Red Bulls looked good on the long-runs on Friday, but today it was an honour to be able to dedicate that pole to Chadwick because he inspired me. My prayers and thoughts are with his family.” added reigning champion.
