F1's winningest driver of all-time, Lewis Hamilton, opens up about his racing career, his victories and his battles supporting civil rights and environmental protection. His achievements on- and off- the track make him a real icon whose fame goes well beyond the sport.

The seven-times world champion had an exclusive interview with Sport Week, during which he talked about his objectives and his battles.

“The eight-world title would be something huge – I can’t even pronounce the number, but this is the target I am focusing all my energy on”

Even if all hints are pointing in the right direction, still no updates relative to the Lewis Hamilton-Mercedes contract saga: despite the continuous reassurances coming from both sides, optimism makes way for reality – no deal has been signed yet.

The relationship between the British champion and the team is friendly and professional, however, it’s been almost one month since Lewis Hamilton is officially without a contract. The previous deal, in fact, has expired on December 30th, 2020.

According to Eddie JordanLewis wants more than Mercedes is prepared to pay. I guess that’s also about stakes in team revenues and an influential role in the Mercedes group.”

Yet, Wolff claimed that “Lewis is important not only for the team but for the Mercedes brand” and that we should expect an announcement “soon. Without specifying “how soon”, though.

Amidst deals-rumours, the British champion seems to be enjoying his off-season. He has escaped to some secret location in the mountains, probably somewhere in Colorado, and updated his 21,5M Instagram followers on his training routine.

Un post condiviso da Lewis Hamilton (@lewishamilton)

“I’m hiking to the top of the mountain every morning. Two of those hikes I cross country ski once I get to the top which is at 3400m, killer. Proper altitude training!!” Hamilton wrote.

Speaking to Men’s HealthHamilton explained that he commonly opts for training methods that combine cardio and weights-training. “I like lifting weights, but I have to make sure that I don’t overdo it. Formula 1 drivers can’t be too heavy: more muscle means more kilos. It’s also disadvantageous to put too much muscle on your shoulders and arms because you need to have a low centre of gravity in the car. It’s important to have a good cardiovascular system as a driver

But, what’s even more important, especially at a time like this, is his ability to place unprecedented care on his mental health – what he highlights multiple times on his social media accounts.

“…lots of work [is] ongoing in the background. Many moving parts but just checking in to let you know I’m doing good, I’m healthy and mentally strong right now in my bubble. I hope you are staying as positive as you can with all that is still going on. Keep your head up. I can’t wait to see you all again at some stage soon.”

While the entire paddock is at a boiling point, waiting for news, Hamilton is spending his time on physical and mental training and has chills talking about a (more than probable) eight-world title.

A hint about the 2021 season? Probably. We’ll be here waiting.
