Following Romain Grosjean’s departure from F1 to go in IndyCar, George Russell has been elected as the new director of the GPDA.

The young Englishman will join Sebastian Vettel and chairman Alex Wurz to represent the interests of the drivers in the sport, for example enhancing security along with taking care of showing some spectacular Grands Prix.

It is an honour and privilege to be nominated director of the GPDA”,- the Williams driver states, showing his complete awareness of the responsibility he has weighting on his shoulders, as he will represent the interests of all his fellow Formula 1 drivers on the grid.

“I appreciate the support of my fellow drivers in entrusting this role to me and recognise the responsibility it entails. In its six decades of existence, the GPDA has been an integral part of supporting and shaping F1 safety, for the sport and our fans.”- Russell says.

However, walking in Grosjean’s shoes will not be an easy task for the Briton, as the Frenchman was in this position for many years, before abdicate this new season as he leaves Formula 1 to race in IndyCar. The former Haas driver will be there just the same, though. Grosjean will remain in the committee as an advisor to end up the security enhancement he is responsible, in order to make useful for others the lesson he learned after his fierce crash in Bahrain, from which he got out safe and sound by miracle, all covered up in flames just like a superhero.

The GPDA has finished appointing another director too. For the first time it will be someone not directly involved into racing , the long-time legal advisor Anastasia Fowle, who will help supporting its businesses and activities.

After several years working alongside Alex, Sebastian and Romain, I am proud they and their fellow drivers have nominated me for the first non-F1 driver board position,- she said. -I am passionate about the sport and the industry and am honoured to be able to support the GPDA in its endeavours.”

The GPDA is following new footsteps and, under Wurz’s attentive guidance, it will follow new paths to improve the sport.
