The moments after the first race of the season are for considerations and Mattia Binotto’s ones are positive and hopeful. The two Ferraris, respectively Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, brought home a satisfying result indeed. The Monegasque ended the first race of 2021 in sixth place while the Spaniard passed the finish line of his first Grand Prix in red in eight position.
Considering 2020’s disappointing situation, finishing the Bahrain Grand Prix among the top ten is looked at a quite good result, which could surely be improved but, at the same time, can be regarded as a satisfying starting point.
The Prancing Horse’s team principal Mattia Binotto comments at the Italian Sky Sport broadcasting this result with a cheerful, hopeful voice.
“Certainly we had a better result today then the whole last season – the Italian comments – even though we still have a long road to go. We are going to use important datas and info from this race and we will work on them, we fought with McLaren.”
“I am also happy with our two drivers – he continued – finally we can count on both”. Here we can clearly spot an unveiled reference to Sebastian Vettel’s unsatisfying results of the last seasons in red.
“Carlos had a good pace; the same can be said for Charles. We are united to improve, and the information we are taking will be used on next races as well.”
At this point, Binotto clarifies Ferrari’s goal for this season. “We are focused on 2022 even if we want to use some updates this year as well. This single-seater can give us some satisfactions, even though we have to work on it”
Later, the Italian admits that it is going to be difficult to fight for the podium and realistically, the “La Rossa”’s goal is the third place in the Constructor’s Championship, remarking once more how important it is to have two drivers in the first ten.
“It’s super positive that two drivers cooperate: Carlos is fitting in very well and he and Charles are working impressively well together. It is remarkably important counting on two drivers and so it’s team spirit. Today we have others ahead of us but someday it will be the teammate. Our 2021 task is getting the third place in the Constructor’s Championship and we will have to fight with McLaren. There will be a great balance with other teams as well, though; I’m referring to Alpine, Aston Martin and Alpha Tauri”.
Binotto’s goal sounds realistic but the Maranello-based team will have to demonstrate that these are not just words, coming by a casual positive start of the season; historically, Ferrari lacks in consistency and this is the right moment to fix this flaw.
