The Emilia Romagna GP started under the rain and with the track completely wet, and immediately supplied great emotions.

During the first corners Latifi went off-track without consequences, then he had contact with Mazepin, followed by a really violent impact that destroyed the car on the front.
Following the contact, only Latifi paid the price and was forced to retire. Mazepin, on the other hand, continued his race.

The Williams driver explained the accident during an interview with Motorlat and other selected media:

"Obviously visibility was poor, probably the worst I've ever raced with, it was absolutely impossible to see"

"After the first spin-off I had at the Acque Minerali corner, then I came back on track and I stayed at the left side as much as I could, I thought that I was the last car, to be honest I didn't even see Nikita," he said.

"Yeah it was very frustrating and unfortunate, that's how racing goes sometimes. On Saturday I did a very good job, today not so much".

He seemed very confident and balanced together with the car for the whole weekend, despite his DNF following the accident with the Uralkali Haas driver.

"From FP1 I felt quite okay, I felt more confident than I was in Bahrain. It was very frustrating throwing away that opportunity, because on Friday and Saturday we did a good job as a team, but It can happen, I think there will be more chances like this in the next races" the Canadian stated.

Latifi also gave his opinion on his teammate's accident with Bottas' Mercedes at the Tamburello corner, which saw the two cars go off track after a violent impact, and a lot of debris that forced the race marshals to immediately wave the red flag:

"I saw the video from George's onboard a few times, I think it's a tricky one. I think a few things should be considered, the nature of the track, the speed, those conditions. That just shows how treacherous those conditions are"

"It seems that George was losing it [the car] by going in the grass, I think it can be considered as a race incident, it was very unfortunate"

When he was asked about his thoughts on the Miami GP https://www.motorlat.com/notas/f1/19710/f1-miami-to-join-f1-calendar-for-season-2022 he said:

"I think having another race in the USA won't jeopardize losing Canada, I saw that it was cancelled this year for the Covid pandemic, still no official sources though"

"But I don't think that having a race in Miami will be a threat for Montreal. It has been one of the best races on the F1 calendar for many years, so I think we'll come back again there once this situation will get better" he concluded
