Lewis Hamilton finished second in Austria after driving a strong race and getting the most out of the W12 today.

With three laps to go, Hamilton pitted for a new set of the Soft compound and recorded the fastest lap of the race on the last lap to claim the bonus point.

The greatest damage reduction Mercedes could achieve today was a double podium to secure 34 points for the team.

After today's race, Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen further extended his lead to 156 points just 18 points ahead of Hamilton with 138 with the other Red Bull's Sergio Perez not too far behind with 96 and the other Silver Arrow, Valtteri Bottas with 74.

Post-race, Hamilton comments, "Today was a bit of a lonely race for me"

He continues, "I was trying to keep up with the Red Bull but with the speed they have, they have obviously made some big improvements over the last couple of races and it was impossible to keep up."

He adds, "I don’t know where we are losing all the time, I think their long runs seem to be a bit better, plus on the straight it feels like we lose a lot."

He concludes, "It’s a serious challenge, we need to figure out what we can do to elevate the package and give us more performance but it was a really good result to get second and third. We got good points as a team today and we have just got to keep pushing."
