Nikita Mazepin will start tomorrow from the 19th place. The young rookie still struggles to get out of the back of the grid. MotorLat had access to an online media session where the driver explained today´s session and performance.
On today´s conditions Nikita explained “The conditions were tough for everyone. The track was seventy percent dry and thirty percent wet so every little bit of temperature that you could generate was necessary and my first run was good but unfortunately I lost my car going out of turn 1…it was a messy session.”
In spite of the difficult day Nikita said “My confidence is good and I´m looking forward to get on the track tomorrow. The first laps are going to be exciting I believe.”
The Russian is working with a new engineer this weekend asked about his feelings on the change he said “We´ve spoken plenty so it´s not like he´s a new member of the team. It´s very smooth. Today was just a bad day for me but not in any way from the team.”
Schumacher and Mazepin are driving this track for the first time. When he was asked by MotorLat about it the young rookie said “In all honesty, I think it´s a really cool track. They made an amazing difference this year in driving in wet conditions, in terms of the flow and the whole layout is one of my favorite tracks as a driver.”
Nikita agreed with Mick that today the team was close to their competitors “I think we as a team are close to our competitors. It´ll be interesting. The tyre degradation issue was quite significant on Friday I think for everybody so it seems everybody will struggle with it and that will make an exciting race.”
