Valtteri Bottas delivered another solid result for Alfa Romeo and managed to bounce back into the points after his previous disappointing finish in Baku. Bottas who started off the grid in P11 finished P8.

However, after
Alpine’s Fernando Alonso received a five-second penalty for weaving in front of him, the Finn moved up to P7. After the race in Montreal, Bottas expressed his happiness with the pace of the C42 and with his teammate Zhou Guanyu’s strong P8 finish.

“We can be pleased with today’s race, especially with the pace we have shown throughout the afternoon. It’s always good to get double points, particularly after a couple of difficult races, but the most important thing was to see that we could fight the cars around us and that we are back at the level we had at the start of the season.

“My race was quite straightforward: I started on the hard tyre and then everything went perfectly for me. The timing of the Safety Car was ideal, I was like ‘happy days!’ It felt really good to be out there, and I’m happy for Zhou as well. He had strong pace and he can take a lot of confidence from this weekend.”

In Baku, Bottas finished P11, and before that in Monaco, he crossed the finish line towards the bottom of the top ten in P9. After two unsatisfactory races, the Alfa Romeo driver conveyed his contentment with both him and his teammate securing points in Montreal and revealed that they found their pace at the end of the race.

“It's nice because I think we've had a couple of quite tricky races as a team. So now we could actually see it was at the end of the race that the we had  solid race pace like we've seen in some races this year and I'm really happy for my team my teammate as well, like he had a good pace and strong race and it's good to get points with both cars.”

After Alfa Romeo secured double points at the Canadian Grand Prix with both cars in the points, the Switerland-based team who now sits sixth in the Constructors’ standings,  managed to close the gap more to Alpine by eight points. Bottas believes that the team’s promising results in Montreal are a crucial step forward for the team’s fight in the constructor’s championship.

“Absolutely. It's really important and I think my teammate can take a lot of confidence from this weekend and I'm sure that going on now we can, you know, be closely matched and get some more points together.”
