Juri Vips has had his contract ripped up by Red Bull Racing. Last week the Estonian driver was suspended by the Milton Keynes-based squad after he used a racist word while on a Twitch stream with fellow Red Bull Junior Liam Lawson.
“Red Bull Racing has suspended junior driver Jüri Vips from all team duties with immediate effect, pending a full investigation into the incident.
“As an organisation we condemn abuse of any kind and have a zero-tolerance policy to racist language or behaviour within our organisation,” Red Bull said last Tuesday in a Twitter statement.
Red Bull again took to Twitter this afternoon to confirm that the investigation has been completed and Vips had been relieved of his duties with the team.
“Following its investigation into an online incident involving Juri Vips, Oracle Red Bull Racing has terminated Juri’s contract as its test and reserve driver.
While not referencing what Nelson Piquet said about Lewis Hamilton, they did add at the end of the statement: “The team do not condone any form of racism.”
Vips had driven for Red Bull Racing during FP1 at the Spanish Grand Prix last month as part of F1’s rules to give two Friday practice sessions to rookie drivers during the 2022 season.
The Estonian has also been competing with Hitech in the 2022 FIA Formula 2 Championship. It’s still unknown whether the 21-year-old will participate in the next round at Silverstone this weekend following the loss of his Red Bull backing.
Red Bull Racing has yet to announce who will take over the reserve and test driver role in place of him.
