Alfa Romeo will be looking to kick on from a double-points finish in Canada at Silverstone this weekend.

Valtteri Bottas, 8th in the Drivers' Championship heading into Sunday's race, is hopeful that the car will perform well at the high-speed venue.

"From paper, it's hard to say nowadays," he stated. "Honestly, every team in the midfield seems like they have their dips, ups and downs - it's been the same for us.

"It's nice to be back on a track that isn't a street circuit and a bit more high-speed... to see this package that we have and how does it perform on a track like this.

"We think it should be an improvement to the beginning of the year."

The Swiss-based team had been on a difficult run after struggling for raw pace on Saturday afternoons on the streets of Monaco and Baku.

They collected just two points as they slipped away from the front of the midfield fight, before a return to form last time out.

While the ten-time Grand Prix winner was happy with the team's performance in Canada, where they finished P7 and P8 thanks to Alonso's 5-second penalty, he says lessons have been learned from Monaco and Azerbaijan.

"In Montreal, we kind of got back to where we should be," said the Finn. "Again, we saw that the race pace is our strength.

"Monaco and Baku was definitely not for us. Lots of lessons learned.

"Now it's going to be nice to see, on a more normal tyre of race track, how we're going to perform. I think we should be okay but we'll see."

There will be four races over the next five weeks before the summer break comes into action in August.

Bottas has a clear target and is aiming for Alpine in the fight for P5 in the Constructors' Championship. Only six points covers the two teams nine races into 2022. Alfa Romeo are only 16 points behind McLaren who sit 4th, too.

"It's so close in the midfield," he said. “I think a good target for us before the August break is trying to get ahead of Alpine, which I think is realistic.

“To achieve that we should be hopefully scoring in each race and if that’s with both cars then that’s a good thing.”
