Team Alfa Romeo had a terrific weekend and earned the points they got with Zhou Guanyu as a wonderful reward.
The team had the pace since Friday, especially in Saturday's qualifying Q1 session when Zhou was in P6, but still had to do the job today.
Both drivers fought effectively in the midfield, despite the difficulty of overtaking, and avoided making mistakes with Zhou in order to maximise the points from the race.
At the start of the race, Zhou started on theh medium tyre compound and at the end of the first lap, Zhou maintains the P9 position.
Halfway through the race, Zhou managed to get ahead of Ocon in 14th having already completed his mandatory pit stop.
With the safety car ending for the last couple laps of the race, Zhou following de Vries and keeping Ocon behind him finishing P10.
Post-race, Zhou comments, “I am really happy with today’s result and with the work that has been done in the past few weeks."
He adds, "it’s been a tough journey since Montreal, because we were very strong at the beginning of the season and then our performances had a dip;
but being back in the points today is an amazing feeling, a great result both for the team and for Alfa Romeo"
He continues, "We knew we had a chance today, our pace was good and it allowed us to be in the fight with the other teams.
We have a couple of weeks off now, which will give us time to rest after the triple-header and, above all, to analyze what worked this weekend and what went wrong in the previous races, to come prepared and motivated ahead of the next ones."
He concludes, "I am looking forward to the Asian double-header, as the races will be closer to home and there will be several fans coming to support me.”
With the race pace from today, if the team continues to perform this strong for the remaining rounds of the season, they can aim to bring more points to their Constructors standings.
