After a two-week break, Formula 1 hit the track again this morning (CET) at the Yas Marina circuit, for the first free practice session of the Singapore GP.

FP1 started with a very dirty track at the beginning of the session, as always happens on city circuits, and saw a very good performance by Lewis Hamilton, who was the fastest with a time of 1'43"033, set in the last laps, followed by Verstappen and Charles Leclerc, respectively second and third.

At 10pm (local time) the second free practice session ended with a solid performance of both Ferrari drivers. Carlos Sainz set the best lap time and was immediately followed by his teammate, Charles Leclerc, and George Russell.

FP2 recap:

Green light and Zhou and Bottas were immediately on track, followed by Russell, Latifi, Schumacher, Gasly, Alonso and Tsunoda. George Russell set the best time (1:44.661)with medium tyres).

Ferrari hit the track after 6 minutes with Carlos Sainz, but a yellow flag in the second and third sector – caused by Keving Magnussen, who went off track fortunately withouth causing damage on his Haas - slowed him down a little bit.

On the other side of the garage Charles Leclerc was still out of the car, because the mechanichs were still working on his car after a very big setup change.

Another yellow fag caused by Russell, who hit the barrier in sector two not damaging his car.

Fifteen minutes in and Lewis Hamilton was the fastest on track with a time of 1:43.668 ahead of Sainz by 42 thousands and Alonso by 0.703.

40 minutes to go and both Red Bulls and Charles Leclerc were still out of track because of big setup changes. Only a few minutes later Max Verstappen hit the track setting the fifth time.

After 30 minutes Perez hit the track with soft tyres, but didn’t set a good lap time, ending up in 12th position.

25 minutes to go and Chares Leclerc went out on track, setting the second time with medium tyres, right behind his teammate by 7 thousands.

1-2 Ferrari with Sainz who improved his lap time in 1: 42.587, and Leclerc, second by 0.295.

Russell was third by 0.324 and Hamilton fourth by 0.595.

Issues for Pierre Gasly who was forced to jump out when he was already in front of his box, when his AlphaTauri briefly caught fire. Fortunately, thanks to the readiness of the mechanics, nothing serious happened.

5 minutes to go and Verstappen was still in 15th position, struggling with Red Bull's new setup, while Ferrari and Mercedes showed a very solid performance. After a few minutes he set the fourth time, behind Sainz by 0.339.

The session ended with a 1-2 Ferrari and a questionable Red Bull, at least today.
