We’re back in Singapore, and it’s time for the third and last free practice session of the weekend. After a few years without the first ever F1 night race in the calendar, F1 finally came back to one of the most beautiful locations across the season.
We’ve entered the session with 26C of air temperature and 29C of track temperature, and it’s quite low for Singapore - it is all because we’ve got heavy rain on track this time, something we haven’t seen in a while during a race weekend there. The session started at 12 CET but the pitlane remained closed. No action was expected for quite a while, as some team were still doing some work on their cars, and the drivers were hanging around the garages.
At around 10 minutes into the session the rain has stopped, but some parts of the track still seemed to be drenched, with a lot of water paddles.
20 minutes into the session and there was still no track action so far. Considering the first and second practice session didn’t goes planned for some, getting some laps in before the quali can be crucial for the performance later today. Some of the drivers seemed ready to go though.
At the half hour in mark of the session, the pit exit was opened so the drivers could go out on track. Gasly was the first one to test the grounds at the Singapore track. There was still a lot of water standing around but Gasly was able to keep it on track for the entire out lap cruise. Tsunoda joined soon after for his own stroll around the still wet track. More drivers ventured out to the track afterwards, to get a better understanding of the conditions, as the track started to dry down a bit.
20 minutes before the end of the session, the drivers that made it onto the track and were able to establish a lap time were: Norris, with the time of 2:09.642s, followed by Gasly, Ricciardo, Schumacher, Tsunoda, Zhou and Bottas. At that point, only eight drivers our of 20 remained in the pits. Soon after, as the track conditions were improving, more drivers started to establish faster lap times, going down to the 2:06.872s done by Max Verstappen.
10 minutes before the end of the session, the driver topping the leaderboard was Verstappen, with the time of 2:02.098s, followed by Sainz, Gasly, Perez, Ricciardo, Stroll, Alonso, Leclerc, Zhou and Norris.
Besides some minor run off during the session, the limited run that we’ve had during the free practice 3 went without any crashes. The final classification after the FP3 was:
