After a long absence from the Formula 1 calendar, a French Grand Prix is about to happen again after ten years from his last edition in 2008. The Magny- Cours circuit saw Felipe Massa and his Ferrari winning the last edition of the GP, but this year the race will be held on the historic Paul Ricard circuit in Le Castellet.

It’s great to be heading back to France, we hadn’t had a French Grand Prix since Magny – Cours. It’s always been a popular race, it would be good to go to Paul Ricard and it’s a nice part in the south of France and hopefully there will be a good turn out.” Said Christian Horner, Red Bull Team Principal, to Mobil 1 The Grid.

The Austrian – English team will bring in France a new hot topic to talk about, the Red Bull switch from Renault engines to Honda’s, but despite this, Daniel Ricciardo hopes that the race will be the hottest thing to talk about.

I hope it can produce an exciting racing. There’s some long kind of technical corners which aren’t necessarily always particularly fun, but they’re a challenge and if you get them right you can appreciate it and feel good about it.” Said Ricciardo, who, with two victories on his side, can be a threat to Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel’s run for the championship.

Despite his big smiles and jokes, this time Daniel wants to keep it serious and concentrate on the technical sides: “The circuit will allow some variations of driving techniques and styles, which could make it interesting. It can get quite windy there, so down that back straight hopefully some slipstreaming and some overtaking opportunities. Other than that, there’s a really long right hander than a long left, which you can kind of approach in two different ways, you kind of go fast in and then sacrifice the speed of the exit or you kind of go slow in a try to get a good exit.”

Paul Ricard has longer straights from more flowing corners, so you’ll trim the car significantly and it will be all about finding that compromise between straight-line speed and cornering potential.” Continued Horner.

The last French GP held in Le Castellet saw Alain Prost winning on his Ferrari; this year three French driver will try to achieve the best result as possible in their home race: Romain Grosjean, Esteban Ocon and Toro Rosso’s driver Pierre Gasly.

The French Grand Prix is the first of three consecutives in the F1 calendar, for what is going to be the first triple – header in Formula 1 history.
