The sun has set on the day of the first race day here in Rome and it is time to definitely try the circuit in order to find the best pace for the race, which will take place this afternoon.

The first session of Free Practices has been won by the actual standings leader Edoardo Mortara. He brought ROKiT Venturi Racing in first position again with the time of 1.40.022. The session, however, has been characterized by a great balance between the teams, as the first seven drivers classified all within just a second of difference between each other.

Mortara, indeed, did not dominate this first session, as Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans came really close to him, followed up by reigning World Champion Nyck de Vris on his Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team car.

In the Circuito Cittadino dell’EUR, all the drivers managed to get on track for some action, even if only for two laps.  Nick Cassidy, indeed, had to spend a lot of time in the pits because of suspected driveshaft issues on his Envision Racing. Nevertheless, Cassidy managed to come back on the track and complete six laps which allowed him to end up in 19th position.

Another car who had some issues has been Avalanche Andretti, as Jake Dennis avoided a narrow miss on the chicane, due to this morning’s fresh temperatures who impacted the braking system.

We also know that the Rome Circuit is full of bumps on the fast uphill section, and Oliver Rowland got out with his Mahindra after a narrow miss on the wall at Turn 7. In the end, the driver got out after a contact with DS TECHEETAH’s Vergne, who sent him to the wall in Turn 12 and 13. Rowland had to retire.
