The Qualifying already showed a great show, with Robin Frijns and Stoffel Vandoorne fighting hard to be the fastest.

It seems like Rome has got his favourites: FP2 has been won by a 2021 winner, Vergne on DS TECHEETAH and the pole has just been grabbed by the other 2021 Rome winner, Stoffel Vandoorne.

Robin Frijns tried his best to secure the pole and he nearly got it. Heading into Turn 3 though, he lost the time so the Mercedes-EQ Belgian could take advantage of that and take the lead.

The Dutch didn’t give up though and he continued to push the car, trying his best to gain back the lead but it was too late. In the end, Frijns had to surrender to Vandoorne catching his second pole position of the 2022 season. By winning this pole, the Mercedes-EQ driver gives to his team the third pole on four races, claiming a great dominance of their powertrain over the other contestants.

"I was on Pole here last year - every lap I did seemed to be good, so I'm very happy with that, - Vandoorne stated, talking about his second Julius Baer Pole Position in 2022. - Rome has historically been very good for me. You have to be so on the edge of the car...but that's what I like to do."

Less happy, obviously, was Robin Frijns, who lost the pole for his mistakes towards the end. “There were too many mistakes from my part... I think I definitely could have matched Stoffel but I'm happy with P2. – he said.

However, the Durch feels happy of his car. "I just feel very confident in the car this season , - he said - we're all on high risk during the laps."
