Not too many surprises in Q1 Moto2 session, if we consider that Brad Binder and KTM are struggling a lot since the start of the season; 2016 Moto3 World Champion ended in 5th the first session of qualifying and was then out of Q2 for just 0.064s. Things went better for his teammate Jorge Martin, who ended in 2nd just behind Bo Bendsneyder, while Iker Lecuona finished 3rd and Nicolò Bulega secured the last spot to get the access at the last qualifying session.
No one then was able to snatch pole position from Augusto Fernandez who got the best lap in a qualifying session for the first time in his career! The Spaniard in his fourth attempt did a great lap and every details was crucial; Alex Marquez, who is 6th, has just one tenth of a second of gap!!
First row is completed by Tom Luthi and Sam Lowes, with 8 thousandths of a second separating the two, while Jorge Navarro opens second row ahead of his teammate Fabio Di Giannantonio. It was looking like SpeedUp duo was the main candidate for pole position but it was not.
