After being really close to a nightmare as long as he risked to do not go into Q2, Alex Marquez went from hell to heaven winning again at Sachsenring taking again championship lead from Tom Luthi who did not have a great Sunday in German soil.
The Spaniard from Marc VDS did not have a great start and was even 5th after the first corner with Luca Marini and Iker Lecuona going on top, but then Marquez has been able to come back really quickly becoming race leader and making the rhythm. It was then another solitary race for him who created a big gap from his rivals, while Marcel Schrotter, Brad Binder and Iker Lecuona fought for the podium.
It seemed that the Italian from Sky Racing Team could fight for top 3 but he lost position after position during the whole race; battle for the podium saw so Schrotter, Binder and Lecuona with the three who engaged a strong fight in the final laps, with 2016 Moto3 World Champion being successful ending in 2nd position, while home hero Marcel Schrotter won the fight for 3rd with a final twist as Iker Lecuona crashed just at the last corner!
Fabio Di Giannantonio crossed the line in 5th ahead of Tom Luthi, who did not have his best day at Sachsenring in a race in which he had to face a long lap penalty due to a contact with Xavi Vierge where the Spaniard fell down in gravel. It was not an ideal race also for Pons’ rider, with Augusto Fernandez 7th ahead of his teammate Lorenzo Baldassarri.
