Not too many surprises in Q1 session where we have 2 top riders like Andrea Dovizioso and Alex Rins, who were the fastest rider on track, with the Italian being the only rider able to run under the 1.59. Their leadership was never in doubt, with the Spaniard who led the session in the first half of Q1, while Andrea Dovizioso in the second run took the lead with a great lap to secure a spot into Q2.
Johann Zarco and Pol Espargaro tried to do their best to bring one KTM into the last session of qualifying and same did Miguel Oliveira, with the three guys who could get the access to Q2 with Pol Espargaro who ended in 3rd ahead of his teammate Johann Zarco, while Tech 3 KTM Miguel Oliveira was 5th in Q1 not too far from the Factory KTMs.
Fabio Quartararo then in the second and decisive session of qualifying thought that he could get another pole position being the fastest rider in the first run, but a little problem on his first bike compromised his performance despite a good lap in his last attempt. French rookie still managed to reach 4th position, a positive result overall, with Quartararo who will start from second row.
Pole position was again in Marc Marquez’s hands who made an impressive lap in Valentino Rossi’s slipstream, with reigning World Champion who obtained the best performance in his last lap riding in 1.58.168! Rossi comes back to first row thanks to a great qualifying finishing in 2nd being four tenths of a second slower than poleman, with Jack Miller who took a great 3rd position at just 0.006s from the Italian.
A good qualifying also for Alex Rins after going through Q1, with the Spaniard who ended in 5th ahead of Maverick Vinales, with the two separated by just 0.092s. Nothing separates Maverick and Andrea Dovizioso, with the two who have exactly the same time but the Italian finished in 7th with Franco Morbidelli and Cal Crutchlow following him; a bit of shame for home hero who was engaged on a fast lap but crashed during his attempt.
Fourth row is composed by Takaaki Nakagami, Danilo Petrucci, who is having hard times also in Silverstone after struggling a lot in the last races and Aleix Espargaro will start from 12th position, a positive result overall for him and Aprilia, still involved in a development process.
