It was a thrilling session of qualifying in which main twist was the clash between Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi where both compromised their lap time by overtaking each other during last attempt.
Anyway, first of all we had a really close Q1 with Johann Zarco being able to snatch the access to the last session of qualifying thanks to a stunning lap that brought him on top of Q1 ahead of Joan Mir, who took off home hero Francesco Bagnaia for just 0.003s. A real shame for him in his home GP but Ducati rider will have the chance to shine tomorrow.
It was then a close fight between the two Yamaha of Fabio Quartararo and Maverick Vinales where both seemed to have the pace to stay on top, but the French made a little mistake in his fast lap ruining his pole chances. Maverick had still to make a good crono as long as an astonishing Pol Espargaro snatched an early pole position that stayed for only a bunch of seconds because Vinales made an impressive lap to obtain first position on the grid.
KTM and Espargaro could still be satisfied on starting on first row, alongside Fabio Quartararo. Good session of qualifying for his teammate too, with Franco Morbidelli who finished 4th ahead of Marc Marquez. As we said before, reigning World Champion was engaged on a really fast lap but found Valentino Rossi ahead of him who was going slower but engaged on a fast lap too. At the end both ruined their lap time risking also to make a contact and crashing but luckily it did not happen. Marc stayed 5th with Rossi 7th, while Zarco and Rins completed first row. 10th is Mir ahead of Nakagami and Pirro
