MotoGP’s first back-to-back is here and riders went on track today for the first sessions of free practice where Maverick Vinales and Valentino Rossi were fastest overall at the end of the day looking at combined time sheets.

Everyone wanted to see if Marc Marquez could come back on track but we should wait until tomorrow as the Spaniard and Honda decided to go on track just on Saturday to test his physical conditions and decide about racing or not this weekend.

On the other side, Cal Crutchlow and Alex Rins tested their conditions in FP1 and FP2 both, but the Briton and the Spaniard were not too fast due to pain. The two guys were 20th and 21th in FP1 and same in afternoon’s session.

As happened last week, not too many guys were able to improve their lap time from morning to afternoon, so the times good for Q2 access are the ones made in FP1, with Vinales and Rossi who were impressively fast, followed by a super Brad Binder, who is doing a superb job with KTM in his rookie year.

Franco Morbidelli follows them putting 3 Yamahas in top 5 as Pol Espargaro ended in 5th combined overall; the Spaniard from KTM made a good FP2 session as well, despite a little crash that did not compromise his work.

Miguel Oliveira put his bike in 6th bringing a third KTM to top 10, ahead of Jack Miller and Takaaki Nakagami. The Japanese was fast in FP1 but also in FP2 as he has been the fastest guy on track in the afternoon.

P9 for Aleix Espargaro, while Andrea Dovizioso snatches last Q2 spot at the moment. 14th Fabio Quartararo, who will have to make a fast lap during FP3: it is not a big surprise considering that Spanish GP winner made the same thing last week, so probably Fabio worked on his race pace. Same story for Francesco Bagnaia, who finished 17th, while Danilo Petrucci seems to struggle a bit finishing in 16th overall.
