KTM and Pol Espargaro are finally on pole position! Younger Espargaro clinched his maiden MotoGP pole position in Austria after a thrilling session of qualifying, where the Spaniard was the fastest guy on track. It were just 22 thousandths of a second separating him and Takaaki Nakagami, with the Japanese who dreamed pole position.
LCR Honda rider tried everything he could but had his last lap canceled where he was engaged on a really fast attempt. A stunning Johann Zarco completes first row fighting against the pain and a Q1 battle! Frenchman just missed pole position for 30 thousandths of a second but still has to start from pit lane due to a penalty.
Joan Mir officially ends in P4, ahead of Jack Miller and Maverick Vinales, who snatched second row in his last lap. 7th is Alex Rins followed by Miguel Oliveira and Andrea Dovizioso, while Championshp Leader Fabio Quartararo is 10th ahead of Franco Morbidelli and Danilo Petrucci.
Q1 battle was a really entertaining one as there were big names as Valentino Rossi, Johann Zarco, Danilo Petrucci, Brad Binder and Iker Lecuona. Only two of them could obtain the access and at the end Zarco and Petrucci were the fastest.
Valentino Rossi was engaged on a really fast lap during his last attempt but ended falling down at turn 9 ruining his chances, while Brad Binder and Iker Lecuona were fast in the first part of the session but not enough in the second one.
