Joan Mir, you are a MotoGP race winner! Championship Leader finally puts his name in winners’ book as made everything at perfection in the first Valencia race. Suzuki rider just had to face his teammate Alex Rins, who finished 2nd and is now 2nd also in the championship standings.
37 points separate them meaning that Mir will have a first match point to win the championship next week. Second Valencia race could crown Joan if he will manage to keep a 25 points lead. Pol Espargaro completes the podium bringing KTM again to top 3.
The race was just a total domination from Suzukis: Alex Rins had the best start and overtook Pol Espargaro in the first laps, followed a bit later by Joan Mir. The two made the rhythm and were impressively fast for everyone.
Just in the first lap we had the first big twist: Fabio Quartararo had a not so bad start but crashed immediately after few corners alongside Aleix Espargaro. Frenchman was able to re-join the track but could only finish in 14th.
In the second half of the race we had the decisive move: Alex Rins went wide in the last part of the circuit letting Joan Mir through. From that moment the championship leader had strong pace and created a margin on his teammate.
Alex Rins managed to keep his advantage on Pol Espargaro, while Takaaki Nakagami ended 4th ahead of Miguel Oliveira. Jack Miller started 6th and crossed the line in 6th with Brad Binder 7th followed by Andrea Dovizioso. 9th is Johann Zarco, 10th Danilo Petrucci. Last GP winner Franco Morbidelli struggled on finding the confidence and finished 11th overall.
12th Stefan Bradl ahead of Maverick Vinales (who had to start from pit-lane due to using his 6th engine this season) and Fabio Quartararo. Lorenzo Savadori crashed in the first laps but still managed to score points in his first ever MotoGP race. Valentino Rossi had to retire due to technical issues, same story for Tito Rabat. Francesco Bagnaia and Aleix Espargaro crashed.
