MotoGP | #PortugueseGP | Bagnaia Quickest on Day 1!
Ducati Lenovo’s Francesco Bagnaia was the man to beat on day 1 at Portimão. Monster Energy Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo was 2nd, with Team Suzuki ECSTAR’s Joan Mir in 3rd.
Ducati Lenovo’s Francesco Bagnaia topped the timesheets on the opening day of the #PortugueseGP with a time of 1:39.866, followed by Monster Energy Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo who set a time of 1:40.206 and Team Suzuki ECSTAR’s Joan Mir, with a time of 1:40.285.
Team Suzuki ECSTAR’S Alex Rins placed 4th on the opening day, with Ducati Lenovo’s Jack Miller placing 5th . After arm pump surgery during the break between the #DohaGP and the #PortugueseGP, the Aussie will aim to make steady progress throughout the weekend. Returning to action is Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez, who made waves in the opening practice session. Marquez ended the opening day in 6th, a clear warning to all not to underestimate the Spaniard.

Monster Energy Yamaha’s Maverick Viñales placed 7th overall, ahead of Pramac Racing’s Johann Zarco in 8th. Portugal’s own Miguel Oliveira placed 9th on the opening day; he will look to repeat his success from the 2020 season finale. LCR Honda IDEMITSU’s Takaaki Nakagami took a heavy fall during the FP2 session, nevertheless he placed 10th overall.
Top Rookie of the opening day was SKY VR46 Esponsorama Racing’s Luca Marini who placed 13th.
As we head into tomorrow’s qualifying session, we look forward to a battle for pole position; can Oliveira steal pole at home? Will Ducati maintain their 100% pole record so far this season?
