Aragon GP | Iannone tops Warm Up ahead of scorcher at Motorland

Iannone topped the morning Warm Up session in the Spanish sun. Dovizioso followed in 2nd, with championship leader and home hero, Marquez hot on his heels in 3rd.

Lorenzo has qualified on pole position for the 3rd successive race, this is the first time he has had 3 pole positions since joining Ducati. Dovizioso lines up alongside Lorenzo, in 2nd position.

 Marquez completes the front row, he has won the last 2 races at Motorland and will aim to continue his streak today.

After going through Q1, Viñales qualified 11th, which is the 6th time he has qualified outside the top 10, however he was given a 3 place grid penalty for irresponsible riding at Turn 16 in the closing minutes of Q1. Rossi has qualified 18th, equalling his worst ever qualifying position, at the Dutch TT in 2006, where he was nursing foot and hand injuries. He will start 17th today, due to a grid penalty for Morbidelli.

Iannone topped the session with a time of 1:47:888. Dovizioso closely followed in 2nd, with a time of 1:48:537, Marquez rounded out the top 3 with a time of 1:48:618.

Top Yamaha was Rossi in 5th, setting a time of 1:48:902. Viñales set a time of 1:49:135, placing him 10th.  Zarco placed 14th with a time of 1:49:338. Contender for Rookie of the Year, Syahrin placed 19th, with a time of 1:49:913.

Top Ducati was Dovizioso who finished this session 2nd. Lorenzo placed 11th  with a time 1:49:171. Petrucci set a time of 1:48:941 which placed him 7th. Miller placed 8th with a time of 1:48:967. Bautista, who has impressed in recent races, finished this morning’s warm up in 6th setting a time of 1:48:939.

Top Suzuki was Iannone, who topped this morning’s session. Rins set a time of 1:49:184 placing him 12th.

Top Honda was Marquez in 3rd, with a time of 1:24:239, a small spill could not slow the Spaniard. Crutchlow set a time of 1:48:848, placing him 4th.  Pedrosa set a time of 1:49:100, placing him 9th. Contender for Rookie of the Year, Morbidelli, placed 17th, placing a time of 1:49:452.

KTM’s sole representative Bradley Smith finished Warm Up Practice in 18th with a time of 1:49:516. P. Espargaro suffered a fractured collarbone in a crash during FP3, he has since undergone successful surgery and is on the mend.

Top Aprilia was A. Espargaro setting a time of 1:49:445, he placed 18th, despite a small crash he will be aiming for Top 10 result today.  Redding set a time of 1:50:169, placing him 20th.

Top Rookie was Takaaki Nakagami in 13th position with a time of 1:49:246.

The weather for today’s race at Motorland Aragon looks to remain sunny with little/no cloud cover and highs of 34ºC.

Can Lorenzo reign supreme at Motorland, or will Marquez steal his thunder? Will Dovizioso be able to rain on the Spaniards’ parade?
