MotoGP Testing | Injured Marquez leads the way on Day 1

We review the first day of the official MotoGP testing session at Sepang.

After a long winter, we finally have some MotoGP testing action, from Sepang. Testing took place from 10am-6pm. Following the private ‘Shakedown Test’, all MotoGP riders will be appearing on track over the next 3 days. The only rider who will be absent will be Honda’s Jorge Lorenzo, due to his recent wrist injury.

Lorenzo’s team-mate and reigning world champion Marquez is returning from surgery on his shoulder, to correct the frequent dislocation. LCR Honda’s Cal Crutchlow is on track for the first time since breaking his ankle in 17 places in October.

Reigning World Champion Marquez spent just 29 laps out in track, setting his fastest time of 1:59:621s on his 26th lap, to make him fastest on day 1. Suzuki’s Rins completed 61 laps, setting his fastest time on his 25th lap, 1:59:880s. Viñales set his fastest lap, 1:59:937s on his 28th lap of 63. Tito Rabat, who suffered tremendous injuries at last season’s BritishGP, is returning to form, setting his fastest lap, 1:59:983, on lap 58 of 59. Petrucci, aboard his Factory Ducati, set his fastest lap on lap 8 of 54, a 2:00:051s.
